Hello Harvey I am sorry to hear that you want to sell your 1000. (by the way how long is your unit?) A manual machine might be a good way to get the knowledge of how everything work while milling on the Legacy, True that the CNC and the 1000 are not really compatible for doing the same type of work, but I believe you will find the the manual machines can offer some advantages over the CNC as well, in some cases.
I just thought of Another way, you STILL may be able to make your unit into a CNC, I've been looking at pictures of the New CNC Legacy's,(The Arty and Shadow to name two) All use a new round rail and some kind of roller bearings. I cant see why the OLD 1000 could not be used for the base to hold there new rails. You can make a new carriage all together, Making a new Z axis using the same type of rails and bearings+ electronic stuff like servo motors and what knots, the headstock and tail stock still can be used. The way I look at it, What ever unit you come up with, you will need a platform to build off, your old unit just might be a solid enough platform for that job? It could combine the best of both worlds. Its just in idea.that way you do not loose anything and gain every good part of both ways. ;-) Have a good night. I was wondering; first is anyone interested, and second how should I present it. I have VCR tapes, router bits, and the unit. I was hoping to make a CNC machine out of it but after reading about doing it I would be better buying a kit and building an unit designed as a CNC machine. I'm not sure how much to price it the unit at and I really don't want to ship it.
