Woops. I got my X and Y axis mixed up when writing this. The Y axis is the carriage (side to side movement), and the X axis is the drive screw (front to back, tail to head stock...) Its been a Very long day. I know it doesn't excuse any thing, but I'm dead tired.
Have a good night.

I'm back! ;-)
I am sorry but work called...
Once you have the centers of the template and the router aligned, Its a pretty simple matter to take light cuts
and work the material down to the shape you want.
Let me back up some.
There are two way to cut form the side, one is freehand, and the other way is under control of the lead screw.(I like the lead screw better for most cases.) Put the #A gear on (the larges drive gear.) and disconnect the X axis, The Y axis is controlled by the drive screw, and the X is controlled by you. (Read Legacy article Clime milling VS under cutting.Legacy builder mag. vol. 1.) Direction of the cut is important, one way you will get a lot of lot of tear out... You will see the difference when you take your test cuts. (light cuts.)

On the template I draw lines at all profile changes, I find this helps me align all the groves (coves and beads)when changing for side cutting to cutting on the top,
Take lots of light cuts. and take your time.
most of these profiles must be done from the top not the side of the work piece (like most of your turning at this time has been done.and its easy to over cut the spindle, So take Lots of light cuts.Watch out for the deaths of your cut.

I always wanted to make a second template follower that gave the depth of cut as well as the profile, (very much like the model 200 used.) but so far its just a want. (something that
I've dreamed about but still have not made.)
Another want or Dream, dealing with cutting from the side, is a second motor to run the spindle. (with-out the gears attached.) this would give you more control
and better finish on turning form the side.

The Legacy is a good machine, It can do a lot of things, some better than others, I am sorry to say as a copy lathe it dose not do a good job. ;-(
But I wish you luck on this job.
Please take pictures and let us know how it turns out.

Hello
I have used the Template follower of the Legacy quite a bit.
I do not believe there are any real good videos of how it is done, I feel this is one of the weak links of the machine, I hate to say that ,The template follower used like a copy lathe dose not work all that well, It is much better suited for making new idioms all the same, than it is for copying all ready made one's. But It can be done, If you make a profile of the chair leg out of 1/4" hard board (or other like materials,) works best.(I've never had any luck making a direct copy from the original on the Legacy. But that too could be done? maybe?) you can cut form the side using a 1/2" end mill or router bit. to get the general shape, and then switch over to the router bit profiles to make the details. The template follower brackets are mounted in the back side of the Legacy, The template follower is mounted on the back side of the Router carriage, There is an adjustable slot in the 1000 plexie glass follower. I always start from 0. locking the router down at that point, that then adjust the center marks of the template, so that the router and template are at the same origin...

I am sorry If this is not clear enough. But I have to go.
I will be back in a few hours. If I can help. I will. But I have to run now.
Good luck. see you in a while.

Does anybody have a Legacy DVD, copy, anything that shows how to use the follower attachment? I purchased a used 1000ex on eBay about 6 months ago. Can't figure how to use the copy part. I need to make a chair leg. It is square, round and curved. Anything would be of great help.
Thanks
Gene
