Good for you Shipmate. I cant wait to hear how everything works out for you.
The Legacy is a good machine, but like any tool its only as good as the person
using it, If you dont have the time, Legacy still makes and sells the part you
want, (Y axis split nut, and gears.) but like you said its not all that hard to
make the things you need to make your machine work as it was meant to.
I was too in the Navy, I was a Hull Technician (HT2) and am now (, for the last
19 yrs.) a Pipe-fitter at the VA hospital Ann Arbor Mi, It is a small world!
Also about your mill, on some of the early units, the Y axis was not run on the
acme screw, they use a thumb screw and blocks to hold the carriage in place
while cutting, So if and until that time comes for you to make the parts, YOU
can still use the mill even if that Y axis split nut in not done. And as far as
the index gear??? Perhaps Tim, or one of our members could help you out on that
topic?
I wish you luck on your adventure and restoring your Legacy.
Have a good day.

Indeed. I bought mine knowing by looking at it that things were broken or
missing. I wasn't too worried about that, as it was cheaper than the kind of
lathe stand I was looking for (the fall-back position). Mine appears to have
been hit by a car in the garage or otherwise tipped over, and not assembled
correctly in the first place. I have an extensive background with machinery,
having served in the US Navy as a Machinist's Mate, worked as a mechanic for
20+ years, and am a journeyman in the Millwright's union. Now, I work as a
mechanical engineer, for the last 17 years. I just need to buy a few things to
make it into the router that it should be. It took about 6 hours of looking at
it and tweaking to get it all lined up and square, and install the remainder of
the loose parts. All I need now are the index gear(s) and the X-Axis split nut
(which I will make myself) to be in business.

Hello guys, and Our Legacy Lady. ;-)
I have some big project plans in the works, but as far as Now goes, Im just
swamped with work at the hospital. Spring is comming! and with the warmer
weather, I will be doing a lot of Play time in the shop.

Like the old song goes. "Tomorrow,Tomorrow, I Love you Tomorrow, You are always
a Day Away..." ;-) (form the musical Annie.) Tomorrow Will be a better DAY.

I’m sorry to say mine are idle at the moment because I am busy with building my
house but I intend to do some projects for inside when I’m up to it and will
post them then but for now it’s up the rest to post

I agree it's certainly not the conversation that I feel the potential of the
group has! Are all the machines in the corners right now? Craft season is
coming up , anyone still making a buck with items coming off the equipment?
Anyone have a stair project for a deck (mighty boring to me) in the works?
