Good day to you Richard,
I have needed to work closer to the middle bars before so I mounted on
top of both the head stock and tail stock pieces. That way I was able
to use that platform as the table and where you would be able to mount
the rotary table. I was milling a repeated design on the edge of a 60"
table so that should be a big enough swing. Now for the router
movement, all I needed was to index the table and move the router 2" for
the cut. I did this by setting the router down between the rails. I
clamped a board to the bottom of the upper rails and made a base that
the router just sat on, it was about 8" X 20". So now this would slide
between the rails on the "X" axis.
With all of that in mind, a solution to your problem would be to create
a carriage that would ride the top rails as well as hang down inside the
upper rails to get the base of your router closer to your work. Then
setting a false base on top of the head stock and tail stock pieces to
make it possible for you to use even the shortest of bits on a huge
rotary situation. Hope this helps.

Hi All
This old Woodchuck of mine does not seem capable of using a rotary
table of more than 8 1/ 2 inch dia. The cutters just don't reach. Any
suggestions please
