hey Shell!... a number of ways to do this... here's one... couple of weeks 
ago was lucky to find what is called a centering scope... at first, did not 
know what it was and certainly did not know what it was used for... studied 
it a bit and realized that one use was for lining up work on a milling 
machine... you would chuck it into the milling spindle chuck and look 
through it, much like looking into a microscope... there are cross hairs 
built into the scope, like a rifle scope, so you would just adjust the x-y 
table to the center of the cross hairs... nice little tool... paid little 
for it... it could possibly work in your instance, chucked into the router 
... not sure what they would retail for, or if you could find one on ebay 
or craigslist... fun piece to use... another way is perhaps a 1/2" shaft 
with a point on one end... length to suit your setup... bring the router 
down just to the point of touching the center of the rotary table, and your 
done... least expensive way to do this, in my opinion... Happy
