My height tool uses 3/16” stainless steel. The old models (1000/1500) all had
round holes that you used as a visual check. Then you would measure all the
corners at least once to make sure the bed was level. The newer machine used
the same visual method and measurement. I developed my version only for the
900’s because at the time only standing models of the 1200/1800 where being
sold. With the added acme screw on both ends it was easier to set the bed. You
still had to measure the four corners to make things flat enough.

Enter my height tool. It uses twice the amount of locations then the old
models but the real innovation was using the rods. When placing the rods in
the brackets, you are able to let the bed rest on a repeatable location. Then
simply tighten the bed down. No need to check all the corners. They will
always be in the same place.

Hope that helps.

Legacy started making the slots in there machines when they started there new
factory, WITH there new CNC laser.

My guess why they started making this design, is simply there new laser could
do the job quicker (Time is money.) On the older machines many of the parts
were punched out, with a press. The laser could do the same jobs (even if so,
they were a little different) faster and cheaper then the old ways of making
there machines.

I would also like to point out, it wasn't but a few years after Legacy started
using a CNC laser, until they making everything CNC, and drooped the manual
line all together.

Further to my post a few minutes ago. I do not intend to keep the shortened 900
.in fact I have had it up for sale for weeks and no one wants it., £600 o.n.o

I do not want to spend any money on it ,just time and out of interest. It is
just another challenge!!!!???

I wonder what the rods were like ,or if they were round or flat rods.

But see what you come up with Richard you might work something better let me
know how you get on

I fully understand that Tim's tool is an excellent idea. But I am interested as
to why the slots were put there. I am sure Legacy did not just put them there
for no good reason.

Did you see my old post when I showed the adjustment for the Revo?
