No I never have, I usually just throw it out, but I must try it some day. I have also been told you can just leave them in the hot sun for a couple of days will dry them out I will try it on the next piece I dry out

By that i mean taking it out and drying it in an oven or some other hot space? Chem labs use desiccant to draw the moisture out of samples and it turns from blue to pink when it has absorbed moisture. You can then put the desiccant in an oven to dry it out and re-use the crystals. And this method does seem to help stop cracking by drying the wood evenly all over provided it is totally submerged in the crystals.
