I don’t think so these days perhaps some that die of natural causes I really
don’t know but I do still see some fairly large slabs sold for a small fortune
at our wood shows from time to time

Yeah your appear to be more like a shrubbery type fruit bearer. Ours at least
the ones I've seen have had 8" boards for sure but 4-6 more common. But for
sure much bigger then your fruit bearers. Interesting little video though
thanks for sharing that

Very nice work. Yes cherry is a whole different animal. Sheer and back angle
are important. Cherry has a pretty high resin content. Feed rate and chip load
will also aid in this. I'll be honest the feed rate we run out legacy are a bit
slow for our bits in cherry. Also our bits are not specie specific. When I
worked at woodcraft industries as Tool tech, we ground specific for species and
also had different hook angles to work with. But in our shops we have to work
with what's out there. None the less this was a cool project and has my wheels
turning. Keep up the great work.

Kind regards Tim

Hello Everyone.

this is a project that I did for a gentleman who I've been doing side jobs for,
For a number of years.

The spindles are 14 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" dia. with a 4" pitch. Both right and
left handed pitches. The wood is Cherry,

I learned a lot on this project. (or re-learned things I though I already
knew.) Cherry burns easily. and when cutting across the grain, you not only
need to keep a keen (sharp) edge, but the profile angle of the router bit must
also be keep clean in order to stop burning. (Thanks Mike. helping me on this
one.)

When I cut the ropes I got a lot of burning, no matter if I took light cuts or
not, My problem ended up being pitch on the profile of the router bit, (I keep
the cutting edge honed and sharp, but it didn't help much.)

While sanding the burn marks out, the sanding changed the look of the roping
slightly. Something that add Charterer to the project, (I hope?) "Any-How "
since the ship and the lights are the focus points, my mess-ups don't look so
bad? (but that just me talking, Mr. G. liked them, So I guess I did a good
enough job on this, to get me by?)

The spindle's have a 1 1/8" tenon cut on the ends, they are glued and pined
into place on the end boards.

If you have any questions or comments on this, Please let me know.

Have a good day/ weekend everyone.
