Bill, there is no problem. I have learned to combine new and old "technology"
for my recent work. I use the CAD because it is net result faster than drawing
on paper and I make so many changes the paper wears out from erasing! It's
just not practical to create many views of the project on paper when the 3D can
spin the virtual object to any view or section. Using the CAD drawing I create
a "story stick" which contains all the details of the project making it not
only possible but practical to build the project without using rulers and the
accumulated errors of them.

Each craftsman has his own preferred methods and I'm still checking out
variations and combinations of very old techniques that really work
efficiently. When I heard about using templates for milling designs, it was
natural for me to extend that to digital. Most of my mill work will be part of
a larger project, not an end in itself, so i wish to see how the proportions
and ratios appear in context before cutting lumber. That means the mill work
design gets inserted into the larger picture.

So you're not missing anything. I'm trying to catch up and will be for some
time. Thank you for your help and patience!

simply grab a ruler and measure it from my drawing I have just made.

I have used the design kit for years and have always been able to mill the job
successfully.

What am I missing? Please explain

The design kit consists of 3 plastic templates and a collection of 40 in x14 in
graph paper on which you sketch your design before producing it on the lom. One
problem is that there are no dimensions on the templates only replicas of the
Magnate bits. I have been trying for years to get depth of cut from both Legacy
and Magnate. The Magnate catalog only gives diameter, total bit cutting height
and radius. It’s not enough information if you only want to use a portion of
the bit as in a barley twist. Maybe Tim Krause can help with this

Does anyone know if the LOM router cutter forms have been digitized? Are the
files available anywhere.
