Absolutely Bill and hats off to all the information and direction on finding
the right tap for me.

I could not have done it without you.

Yes I do need to make it so its not proned to tipping. I will work on that on
the next one. I was

just tickled to get this far.

Outstanding Tim well done see everyone it can be done. I suggest when you make
the Delrin ones

You make the sides hang down over the edges of the bracket it helps stop the
nut from twisting

I own both and I like the one with sides better. congrats you’re the first
apart from me to make

A leadscrew nut now you know how important that tap is and why I searched for
many years to find one

Subject: STOP THE PRESS, NEW SPLIT NUT

Well I finally took the time to make a couple of split nuts from a material

referred to as HDPE, a self healing white plastic that actually drills and

taps very nicely.

I took all my measurements from an other split nut. and cut to a size the

block I'd be using. I marked out and drilled the piece with a 11 mm Brad point

bit. Then I put in vise and proceeded to tap the ACME thread. Going back and

forth continually cleaning it out.

Once I completed that I cut the block in 2 pieces on the scroll saw.

I then marked the hole for the thumb screw and drilled with a 6.5 mm drill bit.

Tapping then with a 5/16 course thread tap.

During the drilling process I used the Rocker pen vise.

To trim the Blocks to fit I used the Rockler Small Parts Jig to hold the block,

and save the fingers.

Overall I am super happy I took the time to make some and they fit perfect.

there is NO play in that carriage now. Not sure how long they will last, but may

make some with Delrin at some point too.

See photos attached.

Kind regards,
