Gentlemen,

I am one of your recent additions. By the way, Thank you !

I have read where people claimed to bend (or straighten) antlers. Below is an
internet link to some people who say they have succeeded in this. Antlers are
basically bone. I have carved enough of each to confirm that. I have not tried
to straighten or bend it.

https://www.bladesmithsforum.com/index.php?/topic/34912-antler-straightening/

I think basically they are boiling the bone for 24 hours. Some people add
vinegar.

Anyway, this might prove much easier than cutting rings and glueing them. I
have also used buffalo horn- pretty good stuff, much thicker.

Hi Dan

Horn and antlers also turn well on the Legacy, Again like the bone, using
Natural products is hard to find larger pieces to work with. Ivory use to come
in large enough pieces to make things bigger (if you had the money to buy it?),
but due to the ban on Ivory it too is not easy to come by any more.

This is the main reason why I spent so much time trying to figure out how to
process bone, to make larger things.

Sadly most people are not interested in working with something new, and for
some reason many will not even try my process of working with bone.

It truly is a novelty since no-one else is using bone, I would think something
well made just might be worth $$$. to someone? (Mike is right about the dust,
Respirators are nessasary when working with ...)

Another idea?.!

This Resin-Ivory works very well on the Legacy. and looks like the real thing.

You might like to try it out for your self.

I've used in a number of times, it cuts like any acrylic/plastic.

Hey guys, It's Christmas season!

Had a wonder. Would horn or antler stuff work similarly? Might be able to get
bigger pieces?
