Hi Cathy,

I have this circumstance (more than once) in my files and did not recollect a problem. However to check this I have revisited them to check it out and I cannot reproduce the problem. I have a Joseph Hayes who married a Margaret Pearson who already had a child, Martha Lydia Pilkington, daughter of Richard Pilkington and Margaret ?. Martha Lydia had 3 chidren before she married a William Ackers one of whom was Edward Hayes.

I thought I had classed the children concerned as adopted but in fact had them as Step. So I amended the records and rechecked, again no problem with the Descendant Narrative report. I also unlinked the children from their parents and then relinked to see if this would make a difference - it did not To get a full picture you may like to visit http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/fergys/genealogy/257.html (note no www.). I appreciate that this will not show the problem but will enable you to see better how the family fits together.

Btw I cannot remember if it was yourself or Carol who pointed out to me that the Opera browser could not read my drop-down menus, however, I am pleased to say that with their latest version (9 I think) they have corrected the problem.

Hi Jan,
The only way to know for sure that something is a bug is to see whether someone else can duplicate your problem.

You reported your problem here, I checked. Although you've had a lot of answers saying what you may have wrong, I'm not sure how many have checked and can't reproduce your problem confirming that you have got something wrong. It would be helpful to have that feedback. If there wasn't a bug, their suggestions on what to check are excellent.

As I said, I checked by entering your family and CAN reproduce the problem in the Descendant Narrative report. Therefore it is a bug.

I've reported it.

If you think you've found a bug, submit it at
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/problems.asp

If the staff person checking these can reproduce it, it goes into the system as a bug. If they can't, it goes to the beta testers - unless they can see what you are doing wrong, in which case they'll get back to you.

Cathy
