Cary, Really think this out before you start changing everything. Remember that, as yet, no other genealogy program on the market correctly interprets Legacy's event addresses when a Legacy file is imported via either gedcom or Genbridge. So, if you ever move to another genealogy program, you're stuck with recreating all this information.
But the good news is that you can set Legacy's Locations to sort in reverse order so you can get the country, state, county, town, local site sorted so the principal places stay together. You can even highlight multiple Locations and Show List will show you all the people in all the highlighted Locations. Now another piece of bad news - several of Legacy's reports, including the Descendant Report, do NOT give you the option of including event addresses. So if you are sending reports, or gedcoms, to people who need all the information, the use of event addresses will cause some data to not be transferred. Like Nancy, I started out making each (church, cemetery, etc) a separate location (years ago in Generations). Now I think using Legacy's capacity to use Event addresses would be a better place for the info, but am faced with many records to change for some places (esp cemeteries I have visited) as well as many Locations to change. So far I have gone to the Location master list, Printed out a list of records for a particular location (or tagged them in some cases) and then pasted the Address into each relevant Event individually. When the address has been added to all of them, I merge the Location into the City/County/State (for the American locations) or whatever and then start on the next one. Please someone tell me there is an easier way. Is there any way to make a mass change adding an address to all instances of a Location that exist at that time? And not lose it if that Location is changed or merged away?
