"Getting It Right" by Mary H. Slawson recommends the following format:

Francois would, of course, go in the Given Name field.
The surname would read De La Tour dit Simonet D' Auvergne

Note the initial caps on each portion of the surname.

When searching for surnames like this, you have to play around with the
format a good deal because people enter them differently.  "Francois De La
Tour" brings up five hits at RootsWeb WorldConnect, for example, but with
all or part of the dit name added you get no hits.
