May I add to Brian's explanation: the superscript 1 indicates where a source REFERENCE superscript would appear in a narrative report if a source (or sources) is (are) attached to the event.
When you look at the eight forms of event sentence definition you will see that the [sources] element is in every definition, but if there is no source Legacy ignores that element when a narrative report is produced. You can move the elements around to suit yourself, or omit them, or insert other elements given in the drop list.
