How about ways to source an email?
Firstly, I must confess that I am not terribly thorough when it comes to Sources. I don't use many of the fields in the Sources screens, just what I think is essential and meaningful to me.
For e-mails, letters, etc for Master Source I put "Joe Bloggs Correspondence as Source List Name and Correspondence as Type (to aid possibly searching at a later date.) On the Comments tab, I write an explanation of who Joe Bloggs is, such as "Joe Bloggs is the 4th Great Grandchild of Fanny Adams, P3.1234". (The bit at the end is my User ID, comprising family initial, generation number and RIN.)
Then for the Source Detail I write, for example, "E-mail 'Some information about my family', 1 January 2007" where the words in quotes are the subject line of the e-mail. If the e-mail said something like "My grandfather was born on 1 April 1899" I would not bother to enter the text in the Detail Text Screen" but if there is explanatory information or additional details, then I include this in Detail Text. For example, an e-mail might say "I found this information on his gravestone. It said he was born in 1800 and died aged 60." I would quote that Detail Text if I was using the e-mail as source for a death date of Abt 1860.
As well as saving e-mails on my computer, I print out any that I use as Sources and keep them in a file. The file name and page number I record in File ID.
