Janis, I think you and I are on the same page here. Coming from TMG, it
took me a little while to get used to Legacy's exclusion of Birth,
Marriage, Death, and Burial from Events. I thought, "If those aren't
events, I don't know what are!" And the complete separation of Marriage
information from everything else was also a little hard to get used to.
But when I discovered the Chronology tab, where all is listed, I was a
happy camper again. So now I look at the Event list as the 'everything
but BMDB list.' I do miss witnesses, roles and a few other features but
adding those would just make Legacy another monster like TMG. I, too,
think it would be a good move to combine the Individual and Chronology
screens into one. Maybe it was done this way to keep the Individual
screen from becoming too overwhelming and busy looking.

If it weren't called an "event" you would think of it differently.
Think of it as your chronology.
I find that I put things into the events that aren't even close to
being events. For instance, the full data from WWI or WWII records,
and data from the SSDI. I like seeing those details when I am looking
at the chronology.
Honestly, I love the main individual screen in The Master Genealogist.
But TMG doesn't offer the ease of report output, and is not nearly as
intuitive in its interface as Legacy. My partner in genealogical crime
is my father, who (although he has served as CEO of two very large
high tech companies, and continues to keep his "hand in") at 77 finds
a stiffer learning curve in the software to be an impediment. I want
to keep him as my primary partner as long as possible!
Legacy is a great answer for us - it is sophisticated enough to be a
serious aid to research, it has nice reports, and it isn't as much a
monster as TMG.
I wonder, however, if they won't work toward integrating the
Chronology and Individual screens into one.... Would love to see that!

Subject: [LegacyUG] "Events"
I have a "problem" with the "Events" in Legacy.
Being somewhat pedantic, I do not regard many of the items listed in
the events section as being "events" but something else entirely.
Mainly it is the occupations, which to my mind are not events as
such, but something which occurred over a period of time. So that
when I see occupations listed under events it jars on my eye, and I
have not been able to find a work around for this apart from putting
all the occupations in the notes.
Anyone else have any ideas on this ? I have used the events section
as it is part of the programme, but to contemplate say a massive
editing job when producing a Web page or a book I find quite daunting.
Cheers..Ed
