Per your question:

Hi everyone, Thanks for your replies, I have downloaded the IrfanView

Could someone please walk me through the process of changing my stored BMP files using the IrfanView program converting them into a .JPG file while reducing the size.

Instead of using File > Open, use File > Batch Conversion/Rename

Select the directory (folder) where your pics are at the top

If you only want to do bmp's, select that for Files of type

If you want the copies in the same directory, click Use this directory as output, otherwise, select where you want them to go using Browse

Under Work as, click Batch conversion

Under Output format, select JPG

If you want to also shrink them, check Use advanced options, then click Set advanced options and click Set new size as percentage of original, enter the size you want and click OK

Then on the left hand side of the Batch conversion box, if you want to convert all the bmp's, click Add all, otherwise, go down the list on the right selecting the one(s) you want and click Add

When the list on the left is as you want it, click Start

A status window comes up and shows you each file being converted and whether or not it converted successfully

Since you did a few of them already, they will not convert again unless you checked Overwrite existing files in the advanced options window (which I do not recommend); therefore, on the ones you already did, it will give you an error stating they did not convert

All the files will have the same name as before, except for .jpg instead of .bmp, and they will be much smaller files

You asked about how to change this in Legacy. I have never attached graphics in Legacy, so I'm not familiar with the process, but you would want to remove the .bmp's when you add the .jpg's or, as you mentioned, you would end up with doubles of every picture and an even bigger PDF. Once you finish doing this, you can move .bmp's elsewhere, although I'm not aware of any harm it would cause leaving them there.

As for the caption, date, and description, I am not aware of a way to transfer them (but that doesn't mean there isn't one that someone else may be able to address), however, when I am doing something like this, I open Notepad and copy and paste the caption, date, and description into Notepad, then cut and paste them back into the new place I want to enter them. At least this saves retyping all of it.

Hope this is helpful.

Karl
