I have created a master source for each location and each census year.
For example,

1900 Federal Census - Tonawanda, Erie County, New York
1900 Federal Census - Buffalo, Erie County, New York
1910 Federal Census - Tonawanda, Erie County, New York
1910 Federal Census - Buffalo, Erie County, New York

I will then use the first master source for every person who is found in
the 1900 census living in Tonawanda, New York and give the details in
the source details. I can send examples to you directly if you would
like.

Mary

Would someone show me an example of how you source a U.S. Census item.
More specifically, I have a lot of ancestors who lived in the same
county. Actually, I have ancestors families who are on the same census
page. I'm really uncertain if I would, say for example, make more than
one 1860 source in my "master source" list if I have more than one
ancestor in the same county, or even the same census page. Also, if
each one is a separate source, do you list the ancestor's name first so
you can keep them apart?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me on this.

I would additionally set a surety of "0", and sometimes I will tick the
little box that keeps the source from appearing in reports.

Others may have a better way..
