That's the point, Pat. You need to start with that first child, and now they come up to the main family view. You add the event to that person, save that person, then do the click between that person and the spouse. Open the next sibling that appears, enter the event (using add and clipboard paste), close and save the person, click once again, open the next sibling, etc. We are talking about seven clicks per person. (Double click to open, click Add, click Paste, click Save, click Save, click between.)
