I think that this issue, which isn't uncommon, is of the same nature as to whether to record the birth name or adopted name as the main name of someone.

Just as people vary on that decision, depending on individual circumstances and whether their main interest is the birth family or the adopting family, so they will on this one of change of gender - which usually also includes a change in name.

Whichever you decide to enter as the primary fact, the other needs to be recorded in Events or Notes.
