Hi Pat,

Always choose a image format like Tiff if available.
The image is embedded in the PDF and to enhance it, you have to copy the image out of the PDF. I don't think this would be different even if you owned PDF writing/editing software although they may have some image editing software included. The copied PDF image is unlikely to be as high a resolution as the straight image format.
