I use MRIN for my paper filing, Elizabeth. As far as I know, there is no
easy way of transferring the MRIN into the User ID field. Some years ago I
think Geoff may of mentioned that they were thinking of programming it into
the software so that you would have the choice of creating User IDs with
either the RIN [as you can do now] or MRINs in Customise>Other> Custom User
ID Number but to date that hasn't happened.
My system might seem cumbersome but it works for me for example.
Brad Pitt marries Jennifer Aniston so Brad and Jennifer's MRINs are M:1234
for both of them [I like to put M: as a prefix]
Brad Pitt remarries Angelina Jolie, Brad's MRIN is M:1234-1235 and
Angelina's is M:1235 and Jennifer's remains at M:1234. I have a couple that
have four numbers.
With my paperwork such as original documents, I file them in the cabinet
under the MRIN. With children's documents [who are not married] such as
vitals, I put M:1234/1 for first child, M:1234/2 for second child and so
on.....this is on a label on the plastic sleeve that contains the file with
a marriage index printed out at the front of the files. I do this with
every piece of paperwork needed for cross reference.
I have a friend who has a larger database than me and she was struggling to
get a grip on her paper filing so she tried the MRIN method and it just
flowed for her and she loves it........just different strokes for folk.
My database is only of 2200 but I could imagine with a large amount of
marriages it could become out of hand.

Subject: [LegacyUG] User ID
I would like to follow the advice given recently about copying MRINs into
the User ID field. This is a big task, but to start with, can I do it for
the married people by any method, please?
