You can only search for text in a pdf if the content is, in fact, text. Just because something is in pdf doesn't mean it's searchable. It could an image of text which is not searchable.

Everything's either text of some kind or an image of some kind. If it's text you can copy and paste it into Legacy. If it's an image you can link it in.

Linking to pictures at online locations is something I'd never thought of. Interesting.

I agree that Legacy should handle other document formats better than
it does. Microsoft Office, Open Office and various database creation
software allows document hyperlinking. To rely exclusively on Legacy
to handle every bit of text is expecting too much. Many times we
receive documentation in other forms, not just pictures, sound or
video. It's a tedious and unnecessary task to have to convert files
just so that Legacy will recognize them. PDF is much preferred over
jpg in my opinion. One example is that you can't search for text in a
jpg as you can in pdf.

I'm not complaining - too loudly anyway - mind you, as there are
workarounds. I'm just trying to add that I agree Legacy should
consider hyperlinking a bit more. The thing I do in the meantime is
add my own 'link' by typing in the path and file name myself. I also
do this for web photo album pictures. I don't keep many photos
directly on my computer. Unless I've never noticed, I don't know of a
way to link to an online picture in the picture locations.

I have one folder specifically for additional genealogy text files (or
whatever files) and I back that one up (which naturally backs up all
the subfolders too) at the same moment I back up Legacy. I
specifically do not keep them in My Documents so that they don't get
lost in the shuffle and it's easy access as the folder is on my
desktop.

Just my thoughts on the subject. :)
