Our family has tracked down and tested the DNA of at least one male descendant from each of the seven sons of our earliest known ancestor on the family surname. All of the DNA results match. I am not sure where the 20% error came from but it certainly does not apply to the research we have done. That early ancestor was born in Virginia about 1751. DNA has proven to be a very precise tool that verifies our paper trails.
