Shirl,

Yes you do need IE7. But may I try and dispel some myths that have been doing
the rounds on this list.

I have been using Legacy 7 since it was in the Beta release, initially with
some trepidation, but it has never caused me any problems since then. Yes, the
Beta release did have some bugs as one might expect but these have been
resolved. Of course IE is the main target for hackers etc. and this is because
it's the worlds most used browser rather than it inherently having more
security holes than other browsers.

I have installed on my PC, IE7, Netscape (now not supported), Firefox, Opera
and Safari and I use IE far more than the others, which I mainly have to ensure
my web pages will work on all common browsers. This is probably more out of
habit rather than a concious decision. Firefox I use when writing PHP coding so
that it is separate from my html. The one which does impress me though is
Safari which has nice clean lines.

However, to get back to Legacy! Whilst I can understand some resentment towards
Microsoft, perhaps it is not very surprising that Legacy seem to lean that way
since it is based on an Access database which, for those who do not know, is a
Microsoft product.

I would make it clear that I am a big fan of Open Source Software and have no
predisposition towards Microsoft, but I do believe in "horses for courses".

Subject: [LegacyUG] LG VERSION 7 RE IE7
Date: Sat, 24 May 2008 14:41:42 -0400

I am hoping one of you can clear this up for me.

Now maybe its me, and I am completely misunderstandiing the issues here.

Is what you are trying to get across, that in order for the new version 7 of LG
to fuction in every area effeciently; that one must also have IE 7 on their
computer??

If so I am in big trouble; I have IE6 on my computer and have NO notion of
ever ugrading it to IE7; (it in itself can be so toublesome.)

Comeon now according to you long time users here; I understood that Legacy and
the Millennia Corp were tops in Family Tree prorammes.

Why on earth would they go to all the work of producung yet another newer
version and have it connected in any way to a securtiy programme or
any MS products.

This would be favouring some products while shunning others and not be in their
best interests of Millennia Corp..

Is the direct casue of all the error messages as well as blank pages, you
people are having now with LG7; the direct results of not having IE7?

Thanks to any one that can clear these questions up for me.
