I learned a long time ago, if you have a piece of evidence on a person, I add
an "Event/Fact" for every little bit of information that I can find.  As an
example, if I find that person in all of the USA census reports, that is to say
from 1900 through to the 1930 census, there is an event for each report.  I
also copy the information that I have obtained or is displayed from (example)
Ancestry.com.  They provide a synopsis of the census entry...   then when I
read the report, I will add additional information, under the same event, to
enhance what was not displayed.
If my mother gave me something, even just a name, I used her as a source, for
each census report, there is a master source and it's broken down from there...
etc... you can see examples on my web site listed below.
I hope this help someone...

I'd use the cousin and the census for whatever they said about the info your
cousin sent (name, dates, etc.) and the census only for whatever the census
showed that your cousin didnt (occupation, own/rent home, etc.)

Here's a question kind of on the same line.

If a cousin did family research, but with no supporting documentation. If you
find a census confirming an individual listed in her research, would you use
that cousin as a source and the census or just the census?
