I'm here - plugging away correcting my Word document. I save the .rtf as a .doc because I think it opens faster. I hope that's not one of my problems. I've looked at the .rtf and it doesn't look any different than the .doc, but the .doc opens faster. One thing I feel bad about is I'm having to delete some source numbers that don't correspond to any source citations. I know I'm losing some good source information. But I'm on Chapter 6 of 17 of the first (paternal) book so it's coming. I think there's 20 chapters in the second (maternal side) book.

Michele:

You're a really good sport to have tried it; thanks for doing that. I can't
explain the situation you have with file extensions--never was very good
with those.

The reason some of us sound so crabby is that we've been battling this
problem for months. We've been told there was no bug, that it was our
settings, that we should download again, delete this and tick that. The
last update fixed only a tiny part of the issue--it was even worse before.
The rtf business makes the software virtually useless for some of us and
brings our research to a complete halt, but we weren't able to go back to
v.6 when the core problem was discovered. I'm surprised that Ruth hasn't
been hauled off to the funny farm by now. Are you still there, Ruth?

Anyway, try to bear with us or just delete our rants and maybe hold a good
thought for the sufferers.

Kirsten

I took your advice, Kirsten, and I saved a decendancy report as an rtf file.
You win that one. I saved it and then opened it in MS Word and it was a
jumbled mess. There was no data in there at all, only a column of strange
numbers.

One thing I noticed is that whether I told it to save as an rtf or if I told
it to save as a text file or if I told it save it as a pdf it saved the
file with an extension of rf1. I don't get that. It should be rtf or txt
or pdf. I would think that is part of the problem. It doesn't give me the
option to change the file extension.

Very interesting indeed. I owe y'all an apology for not taking your
concerns more seriously.

Why is it saving everything (rft, txt, pdf) wht a rf1 extension which
apparently MS Word does not recognize.

michele

P.S. I still think people could be a little nicer :)
