Ron,

I know that anything that happens occasionally is a problem. I have stopped making any entries with more than one database open. Hopefully, that will take care of the problem. Also, I am keeping close count of the number of additions/subtractions I make in any database. I believe that I should, immediately, find any unexpected individuals. In this way I should have a chance to find the reason for the duplicate entry.

I am very concerned about this problem as I am consistently working with three databases, that, collectively, have almost 50,000 entries. I have been working on this family surname since 1990 and would be devastated if I were to lose the information.

I am sure that I should have recognized the "British" humor. We spent three and one half wonderful years living in England, loved every minute of it and thoroughly enjoyed, not only the humor but also the weather.

I thank you for taking the time to answer my question and will get back to the board when I can isolate the problem. Thank you, also Dennis and Richard for their input.

Claire,
To answer the last question first, if you mean do I work for Legacy, then the answer is is "No", I am a user the same as most of the others who try to help. If it hadn't been typed, then perhaps the problem was arising during a merger - a totally different ball game as I'm sure you would agree. I have never had this problem, and at present cannot think of a possible cause. Since it seems to be random, isolating the cause could be extremly difficult unless something is spotted at the time of entry. The clipboards seem to be an obvious, but no single one contains all the details necessary to make a duplicate entry. Sorry if you took offence re typed entries, non was intended, I thought the opening of my second paragraph would have shown that this was meant to be mildly (British?) humourous. I know that I have made entry errors in the past, and no doubt will in the future.
