My trials and tribulations with error 91 - backup. I feel like I am in the World of OZ.

I have a Toshiba Satellite (notebook, purchased in 2008 with plenty of memory) with Vista Ultimate & an Ultra Tower with XP Pro, purchased in 2007. Both with Legacy 7.0.0.86, connected with Linksys wireless G Broadband router / folder share. I run regular maintenance on both computers.

I have been having error 91 backup miseries since early November or late October with the Vista only. Sadly - I do not remember which version of Legacy 7 update it began with. I had Legacy 7 for months with no problems.

I have been experimenting with a specific legacy database trying every variable I can think of - including, full re-install, file maintenance many times, removed all tags, ID #s, I have removed every one of the potential problems, removed direct line indicators, colors, preferences and so on and on. This database has NO multimedia locations or paths attached. (A) - I can backup with the XP PRO with no problems - pass the database over to the Vista notebook, open the database making no changes or additions what-so-ever - I can backup ONE time with Vista. (B) If I immediately try to backup a second time - I get error 91, which freezes the Vista computer. Adding variables such as closing Legacy, rebooting the computer I still get the error 91 every time I try to backup a second time. Backup gets about ΒΌ inch on the indicator - backup error 91 & frozen computer. HOWEVER - if send the database back to the XP Pro - open, again making no changes, additions nothing - just open and backup it up with XP Pro. Then send the same database back to the Toshiba notebook with Vista - I get one good backup without problems but any attempt at a second backup fails with error 91. The Good backups are Good backups - I have opened and checked them. I have done this back and forth step dozens of times. * I was getting error 91 in Vista not XP Pro - for something else earlier this fall but I cleared that out by going to Customize > Locations and cleaning up my multimedia locations and paths. Sorry I cannot remember the exact error 91, but it wasn't a backup error. File maintenance does not touch these multimedia bad locations.

Suggestions and Sympathy appreciated,
Ana
