When using the International Genealogical Index (IGI) at
FamilySearch.org, it's essential to know there are TWO main types of
records: Controlled extractions and patron submissions.

"It's in the IGI" says nothing about reliability.

Controlled extractions are records that have been indexed by two
people working independently, and any disagreement judged by a third
person. These are considered to be highly reliable -- there is such a
record, source is given, and it says what the indexers recorded. (Not
perfect -- but a low error rate.)

Patron submissions are from individuals, often members of the LDS
Church (Mormons.) Often, no source is available. The information may
be accurate, submitted by a careful researcher; or it may be totally
wrong, submitted by someone who "thought" it was correct. It's not at
all reliable; may be useful as a clue for further research.

Since Legacy allows source details, I suggest that "IGI - controlled
extraction" or "IGI - patron submission" might be useful details to
enter.

Hope this is helpful. Dolly in Maryland
