792 replacements! Jeepers I have a lot of census records!

I take it that you have version 7, and you mean Census Event and not Census
Source. I do not have Census Events so inserted your phrase in a Birth
Event.
Went to Seach and Replace, select Notes-Events, Anywhere in the field,
Replace only found text.... It was found and replaced with blank as
requested.

Here is what I want to do...
I want to replaces the words
able to read/write/speak English
with
able to read and write, speaks English
I have MANY of these in the notes section of a census event. No matter
which way I check off the boxes in the search and replace it tells me 0
replacements were made.
What am I doing wrong?
