Hello, I have purchased a netbook that I want to use mostly for genealogy.
I am still using on my desktop Legacy5 version 5.0.0.61 and have never updated because never able to do so with success. Since I was happy with the way the old version was working, I had given up several years ago on updates. After the purchase of my netbook I tried again to update the version of Legacy 5 on my desktop with the intention of downloading the full version of Legacy 5 on my netbook and have two matching versions. Again I have been unable to do after several trials. (run-time 380). Maybe something wrong with my system and I really do not want to reinstall Windows XP. My senior brain can handle only so much. I reinstalled Legacy 5 from the disk and restore from a previous back-up (During the tentative update Legacy had modified my family file). I would be happy to continue working with my version of Legacy 5 and hopefully can do so but would like to confirm that I am not heading for disaster. I copied the folder Legacy from my desktop to flash drive and from the flash drive clicked on Legacy5 set up. Legacy downloaded some files, installed itself on the C: drive and again tried to transform my data files which I did not want because I wouldn't be able to restore on my desktop. Legacy requested permission to transform the files, but "no" was not an option. I uninstalled Legacy from the Netbook since I could not open the family file unless I transform it. I do not have Legacy on my netbook, but I am able to open Legacy from the flash drive which hold the copy of the Legacy folder on my desktop. However, I have noticed on the netbook C/ drive a folder Legacy with the 3 sub-folders Back-up, Data and Search. I supposed that the files were created when I tried to install Legacy on my netbook (the search folder contains Ancestry files.) I am concerned that the three folders created with a different version of Legacy that the one on my desktop might create problems. I am also afraid of removing them and not being able to open Legacy from my flash drive! I have created a folder Legacydata under "Mydocuments" were I save the back-ups and have been able to restore. Could you advise me? Thank you Paulette, Camarillo, CA
