Paulette,

Legacy v5 will run just fine under Windows XP, but not Windows Vista. You
need to install Legacy on the netbook. You can't just copy the folder over
from one computer to another and you can't run Legacy from a flash drive.

The final builds of versions of Legacy prior to v7 can be downloaded from
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpDownloadVersion6.asp. Passwords are on
that site.

You will have to have the same version of Legacy on both computers as the
files aren't compatible otherwise.

For Error 380, go to our website and click on the Help Center menu and
select Technical Support where you'll find a solution under "Solutions by
Error Number".

Thanks for using Legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 5

 Hello,
I have purchased a netbook that I want to use mostly for genealogy.
I am still using on my desktop Legacy5 version 5.0.0.61 and have never
updated because never able to do so with success. Since I was happy with the
way the old version was working, I had given up several years ago on
updates.
After the purchase of my netbook I tried again to update the version of
Legacy 5 on my desktop with the intention of downloading the full version of
Legacy 5 on my netbook and have two matching versions. Again I have been
unable to do after several trials. (run-time 380). Maybe something wrong
with my system and I really do not want to reinstall Windows XP. My senior
brain can handle only so much.
I reinstalled Legacy 5 from the disk and restore from a previous back-up
(During the tentative update Legacy had modified my family file).
I would be happy to continue working with my version of Legacy 5 and
hopefully can do so but would like to confirm that I am not heading for
disaster.
I copied the folder Legacy from my desktop to flash drive and from the flash
drive clicked on Legacy5 set up. Legacy downloaded some files, installed
itself on the C: drive and again tried to transform my data files which I
did not want because I wouldn't be able to restore on my desktop. Legacy
requested permission to transform the files, but "no" was not an option.
I uninstalled Legacy from the Netbook since I could not open the family file
unless I transform it.
I do not have Legacy on my netbook, but I am able to open Legacy from the
flash drive which hold the copy of the Legacy folder on my desktop.
However, I have noticed on the netbook C/ drive a folder Legacy with the 3
sub-folders Back-up, Data and Search. I supposed that the files were created
when I tried to install Legacy on my netbook (the search folder contains
Ancestry files.)
I am concerned that the three folders created with a different version of
Legacy that the one on my desktop might create problems. I am also afraid of
removing them and not being able to open Legacy from my flash drive!
I have created a folder Legacydata under "Mydocuments" were I save the
back-ups and have been able to restore.
Could you advise me?
Thank you
Paulette, Camarillo, CA
