Ann,

I agree that the problem is not the computers. I don't think it's even the
program but since I am not a programmer I am just guessing. I really think
there is a problem with the family file itself. I have 4 Legacy databases.
Three of them are fine but the largest one is the "problem child".

You can find the exact error message 2 ways. The first is when the error
occurs. When the error message appears on the screen it should say what the
error is - something like "Error Reading Individual. Error 91. Would you
like to try again?" The other place to look for the error message is the
LegError.log (I think that's the name. I am not at a computer with Legacy
installed) file in C:/Legacy folder. You will probably have to scroll to the
bottom of the file that opens in Notepad (or your preferred text editor).
You will see the date you attempted the backup, the error code and the error
message.

Check and Repair does absolutely nothing, zero, zilch, nada with my file.
None of the typical troubleshooting steps work.

Good luck,

Terri

Terri,

Thank you for posting your findings. In my main database I get Error 91, in
an other database I never get Error 91. This is the same on an Acer laptop
and a Dell laptop, both running Vista. This would seem to indicate the
computers are not the cause of the problem. I do not have any pictures. How
do you find what the Error 91 message is? For me when this started last fall
as of March 8, when doing check repair it slowed down at Step 116, hesitated
at 147, 157, 163. As of March 16 it stops for quite a while at Step 116, the
rest happens so quick I am not sure, I think it hesitates at 117 or 118,
147, 157, 163.

I can go into the program, not do anything but do back up and get Error 91,
which puts me out of program, go back in, do check repair, do back up with
no error. So far after entering something into the program I do check
repair, exit the program, go back in and do back up without Error 91.

I have one file only that generates an Error 91 on a regular basis and I
spent a good portion of yesterday afternoon testing. I found I had 2
separate Error 91 messages: 1) Error reading preferred picture and 2) Error
reading individual. I found the offending "preferred picture" by opening
each folder which holds my images and using the thumbnail view. The bad
image did not generate a thumbnail. I replaced that image and Error 91
message number 1 is resolved.

I still don't have an answer for the 2nd Error 91 message. However, I found
that I can successfully backup from any tab EXCEPT the Family tab. I get
error-free backups from the Legacy Home, Pedigree, Descendant, Chronology
and Index tabs. If the Family tab is displaying a couple with children an
Error 91 is guaranteed. If the Family tab is displaying a single female with
children an Error 91 will occur. If the Family tab is displaying a single
male with male & female children an Error 91 will occur. However if there
are only males displayed in the family tab there is a chance the backup will
be successful. If the Family tab is displaying a childless couple or a
single person (male or female), the backup will be successful.

This behavior is the same on two different machines: a custom-built PC and a
Dell Inspiron B130 laptop. The file is converted from FTM but 2 other FTM
converts are fine. Legacy and Windows XP Pro are always up-to-date. I tried
all the usual troubleshooting but so far nothing will make the Error 91
Error reading individual message go away. So for now I just make sure I back
up from any tab EXCEPT the Family tab.

I sent this information to the Support team already. Hopefully it will help
others.

Terri

Carolyn and other recipients of Error 91,

Today I tried yet a different way of trying to back up without getting error
91. I did some editing, exited Legacy, returned to Legacy, did backup and
did not received Error 91.
