Pat and listers

For Gedcom extensions.

Go to your windows control Panel> Default Programs> Associate File Types.

In the Left column you will see all the file suffix extensions that are on your computer OR are handled by any program you may have installed on your computer.

Go down to .ged
and click / highlight that item.

In the upper right corner click on change program.

In the pop up window select Legacy. If legacy doesn't show then browse to C:Legacy Folder and select the legacy.exe program, which usually resides in the first level within the legacy folder. depending on your version, (mine is in Legacy7) your folder may say Legacy or Legacy

That will "associate" the .ged files to be opened by Legacy and use the Legacy ICON.

Dennis, do you seem to recall that the way to stop this from
reoccuring is to remove FTM?

That would certainly stop it. If you remove it you can't execute it and
thus it can never reclaim the association. Unless the uninstall leaves
an artifact around like a service which reclaims the association.

A search of the archives or google might turn up more on this. I only
have a vague recollection of this being discussed before. This is more
of an FTM/Windows issue, hence some might consider it off-topic.
