I use and have done so for a long time, (_________) in place of an unknown
name when I am entering a new person. This way it prints out in my reports
like the example below. I don't have to do anything more unless I discover
the missing name. It is easy to edit and type in the name, once known. This
provides a quick reminder to anyone reading the report that the name is
unknown and for many of my family, encourages them to help by providing the
missing information, if known. It isn't ideal but for me, I prefer it to any
other visual for showing/displaying a missing or unknown name. ... Mary

  1. Geraldine "Judy" Poindexter,(1) daughter of Noble Poindexter and Ida
Barclay, was born in 1900 in Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas.(2)
She
         is usually called Judy.

Judy is known to be living in Wichita, Kansas in Apr 1908. (3)

  Judy married (_________) Johnson.(4)

or if both names are unknown .... Judy married (_________) (_________). (4)

Should I decide at some point I'd prefer just an underline or .....?.....
or some other visual, it is super easy to do a search and replace for
(_________) in both surname and given name fields and in a matter of
seconds, both fields have been changed.

I can eliminate the wording "somone" but I cannot get the desired blank
lines when there is no spouse and "Insert Underlines for Missing Given and
Surnames" is checked under options for the Ancestor Book. I'm using build
7.4.0.39

Lincoln,

Have you set Options>Customise>Default Format "Word for blank records" to
just leave it blank. I would be interested to know if this does the trick,
so please do let us know.

I am uncertain as to whether the lines will be inserted, as well as not
knowing if it gets rid of the "someone". Also what version are you using? I
thought that this problem had been resolved - I don't seem to get it now.
