Ron,

Just a quick response to two things; 1-the extracted data -- that is what is
being transcribed and posted on the record pilot site free of charge and
available to the general public. It is not part of the NFS 'tree' that has
been debated here. I would think 'eventually' NFS would be able to allow
users to attach the source image to their 'tree person' as Ancestry.com now
does but that's not going to happen soon as far as I have heard 2- the
'member trees' are what is in NFS, however, there are individuals who were
extracted from the records mentioned above; i.e., a marriage record might
have husband, wife and their two sets of parents so you could see that
little tree in NFS. You might search for the husband and find him attached
to the wife and then see that both sets of parents are there. Then you
could start searching for and connecting (or adding new) the siblings or
other generations.

Some of the older trees can be more accurate and 'brick wall smashing' than
newer ones. Although unsourced, most of their records did come from
extensive research and family bibles (I said 'most' :-) Some from memories
of older people long since gone and took all of those memories with them.
These can be the most important clues that send us in search of more records
(as has been said in other posts); of course, they didn't have access to all
of the paper documents and especially the digital ones. We've only had such
quick access to these for a short time. I believe some of the actual family
group sheets that were submitted originally are actually available on
microfilm and sometimes they do have notations as to where they obtained the
data but definitely not always.

I just smashed through a brick wall in Sweden because someone saw a message
of mine on Rootsweb and directed me to a Swedish family history site that
had some of my names. Just the little bit of data on that site sent me to
the right area of Sweden for me to find the actual records. Finding trees
online have been my absolute BEST way to break down my personal brick walls
and searching for the evidence is my job.

Enjoy your day! Kathy
