I'm not sure I'm following this topic correctly. I have my legacy program on my
primary drive, but all the rest including the database, the media files, the
backups, tips, resources, etc., go into subdirectories under my Legacy folder
on my larger working hard drive in my computer. The multimedia backups go into
the same folder as the backups. Having these on a separate drive means that
when I sync legacy with my backup drives I don't have to sync the primary drive
since it is separate. And it keeps too many files from piling up onto my
primary drive.

Under my Legacy main directory, I also have a large directory/subdirectories
with media files -- a few, but not many are attached to legacy at this point.
Am I correct in thinking this is what is being discussed - the picture files?
When I attach a file to the picture gallery, for example, it will remain in the
directory in which I originally put it. (These are divided into census records
for each year, death records, birth records, photos, etc. The one problem that
is happening is that the subdirectories are getting over filled with files
(multiplying branches). I'm going to have to divide them further. Since I
haven't gotten to the place where I've finished researching this line as far as
possible in ancestry.com, I haven't attached many media files yet to legacy
records. I don't multitask well, so am focusing on collecting the information
which I will, hopefully soon, enter into my Legacy database. I'm hoping by the
time I start adding the numerous multimedia files, I will have a more final
version of the directory tree. Otherwise, there would be the necessity of
repointing Legacy to new directories if I split files off into new
subdirectories.

I really don't want more on my primary drive than the system and progam files
so wouldn't want to use any of the primary drive folders, but am I going to run
into future problems with the way I am doing it?  Does anyone have ideas that
might be a better way of doing this while using a second drive?

Hope this makes sense. Thank you
Peggy
