I have never seen why one should ever wish to change the RINs or MRINs, I
never have, indeed it would be a grave mistake if I changed the former as
the RINs are used for the file names in Pedigree webpages. If I changed the
RINs all the URLs in the Search Engines would be wrong, at least until they
caught up.

Years of building up the search engine records for my webpages would be
wiped out overnight!

Jenny, it's just the OCD in me. But I can see where it isn't really possible
especially when branching out more. I just started trying to catch up on
entering data and arranging my folders and find myself overwhelmed. I
thought I might arrange the documents/media etc for families and use the
MRIN as part of the folder name. Still haven't figured out a way to use the
UserID unless I just accept the default. In that case, renumbering would be
a nightmare since it would change the ID's.
Thanks for the heads up.

Just curious, but why does it matter if "some of the main people had
high numbers"? I have been researching for nearly 10 years and started
in Legacy by entering the people from a hand-written tree compiled by a
relative. Because of that, one of my 6th Great Grandfather is number 1
but another of my 6th Great Grandfathers I only found a month ago so his
RIN is 4517. (I happen to be RIN 221.)

If you want "important people" to have low numbers are you going to
renumber every time your research throws up another direct-line ancestor?

I use RINs as part of the UserID and use the RIN or UserID to identify
everyone in documents or pictures and in file names. As long as I use
the right number it doesn't matter a jot to me whether the number is
high, low or in-between.
