The “von” could be put in the Title Pre then it would be “von Bruck” but the options would have to be set so it displays correctly. also it is better to tag the non-location entries first so they are not lost and then the tagged ones can be copied or turned into notes then if there are non used locations a purge could take place. The purge should be done after all the other options have been used.

Is that not where it should properly be included? If you put it as a title suffix, it will appear after the name ("Bruck von"). Your second option is to use Alternate Names, recording "Bruck" in the Surname field, and "von Bruck" in the Alternate Name filed. You can swap these easily at the individual level. Regarding 2, to remove places not used, within the Master Location List, click Options > Purge Unused... There are many functions in both that I appreciate but also differences that can be confusing. To start with I have two questions: 1. What is the best way for Legacy to handle "von" or "von der"? I am not totally pleased with the way name prefix or suffix does this. I would prefer to have the main part of the name, i.e. Bruck rather than von Bruck, but still have the von recorded. This does significantly affect the search on FamilySearch. 2. On import of .ged file there seemed to be some errors that placed dates or other information in the places database. I have corrected the individual records but these false places are still listed and I can't find a way to erase them. Thanks Bernie -- Russell G. Strong P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today!
