Pat, For what it is worth, the context Help button says: “Master media items and how many times they have bee linkedâ€
Now I hope that is clear – beats me :-) Ron Ferguson http://www.fergys.co.uk/ From: Pat Hickin Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2014 3:46 PM To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Updating two family files Your arguments for maintaining only one major file are convincing. I think I broke mine into 2 separate files to make it easier keep track of the pictures. But I guess I don't need to change the way I do that. Incidentally in the Family File Information box, what precisely does the term "times linked" refer to? If you continue with your present setup (ie two separate files plus the combined one) the only way to keep it all current is to update two files with each new piece of information. Very tedious, and if you're anything like me one day you will forget to update the second file and then it's all out of sync. Why not just go forward with the new combined file? Then you will only have to enter data once, you will have only one set of master files (locations, sources, ...), and life would be much easier for you. And when you discover that your mother was related to your father in some obscure way (as many of us do!) you've already got everything in the one file ready to make that connection. You may have good reasons for keeping your two sides of the family separate, which is why I'm saying to think about it, not to just "do what I say". :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Pat Hickin said the following on 2/03/2014 8:08 a.m.: > For some years I have maintained two separate Legacy files, one for my > maternal side & one for my paternal side. > > I have just created a third file, which is a merger of the two files, > for uploading onto a dna website. > > Now I want to add some info about an individual and I want the new > info to be in both the paternal database and in the merged file.
