I just tried the same file in Legacy 8 and I do NOT get the "Compatible
Gender" checkbox to respond either way.

You mentioned your try showed the boxes did not stay repositioned. Are you
reporting that as a bug or should I ?

If you like I can send you the gedcom for testing.
