I have seen several complaints recently regarding placement of attachments. I don't want to re-discuss the correctness of either method here.
As John Lisle mentioned in an unrelated post it is sometimes difficult to follow the message when attachments are not inline. This is easily remedied with placement of a reference to the attached filename at the place inline where the attachment would otherwise be inserted. For example: (See filename.doc attached). This is similar to: See Fig. X on page ## in a book. I know it is extra keystrokes but it eliminates confusion. Larry Lee
