Shirley:

Here are some ouput page numbers (81/2x11) from charting Ancestors:
Generations # Chart Pages
5 4
8 21
10 40
12 60
15 95

It become pretty impractical to chart very many generations for any kind of
output displays.

For Descendants, here are the number of pages generated
Generations # Chart Pages
4 10
6 50
8 122
10 212

I think it is pretty obvious that if you try to chart more than about 4-5
generations you are going to have a problem trying to print and reassemble
the chart. I have printed charts out to a jpg file and taken that file to
Wal*Mart and had them print it on poster paper. A 5 generation chart
resulted in a 2' by 6' poster that was printed using a plotter.

Try some charts within Legacy and see how many pages of output you generate.

If you only have 1 child per generation, then you mostly will have a
vertical chart and you could print several generations.
In my experience, many of the families in the late 1800s and early 1900s
had 6-12 children, so plotting descendants becomes an issue with that many
children, children's children, etc.

Try looking at some charts by using the Preview mode in Legacy Charting and
it tells you how big the output is and how many pages to print the chart.
Legacy even provides an interface to a nice printing service to print your
large charts at a reasonable cost. You can see the cost to print the chart
based upon the quality of the paper you use for printing. All a very nice
service.
