The New England Historic Genealogical Society, in a book entitled "Guide To Genealogical Writing", says to use exactly five (5) underscores for an unknown name. Thus, I recently did a mass change of the use of "Unknown" to the five underscores in Legacy. For one thing, this makes the fact stand out that the name is not known when scanning a list of names, or otherwise.
