If it's persistent and the Support article on it doesn't help, here's another set of instructions from Michele at Support she recently posted to Facebook. This actually installs a new copy of the LegacyFS module which helps clear some persistent errors.

Trying to search family tree from legacy 9 getting the error code;
"access violation at address 0087E43 in module legacyFS.exe Read address 0000000A8

Michele Simmons Lewis (Legacy Staff)
1) Close Legacy and then reboot your computer. This will ensure that all Legacy components are really closed. Don't open Legacy.

2) Close Legacy. Navigate to the C:\Program Files(x86)\Legacy9. If you have a 32 bit computer navigate to C:\Program Files\Legacy9. Inside there you will see a folder named FamilySearch. Delete the entire folder.

3) Now navigate to the \Documents\Legacy Family Tree\ folder and open it. Delete the LegacyFS folder.

4) Now download the program again which will replace these folders. You can do that here http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadUpdate.asp (it says update but it is the full install)

5) Now open Legacy and go to MY TOOLBAR > FAMILYSEARCH. You will have to enter your login info again.

    ordinances ready, etc.
Unfortunately I am unable to advance.

I'm not LDS so I don't know whether there are more
problems with that part of the Legacy FS program but
                it's working fine for me.

                See:

Access violation errors have a number of different causes.

It can't be a general problem or there'd be posts in
the Facebook group. There's only one and he found he
had a heap of Check/Repair errors in his file.

A new problem has shown up when using LegacyFS. I
                    think the error
started showing up several hours ago.

The API from LegacyFS to FamilySearch must be
                    broken again. The error
                    message says:
Access violation at address 0075E311 in module
                    'LegacyFS.exe'. Read of
                    address 0000000C.

Any word yet? or am I the first one to notice? The
                    LFS program will
no t work at all now. I'm able to see that the
problem is not at this end.
