Jack,

I wonder if you need to empty your Internet Explorer cache/Temporary Internet files - and yes I mean Internet Explorer as a form of that is used for internal display of websites. If you've uninstalled Internet Explorer, that could be the problem I guess.

Also try deleting this folder: "...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\LegacyHome" There are settings on the Legacy Home tab that control how Legacy connects to the internet under the Options button but these are normally overridden by Click here ... so that's probably not the issue.

Thanks for your comments - .339 installed OK and running, but still can't
see Legacy News on Home Page "Make sure you are connected to the internet
and then click here to retrieve the latest news items.". Similarly, Check
for Updates won't work as it tells me (eventually) that I need to be
connected to the internet.
Using Windows 10 vsn 1909, and only Windows Security running as security
package

That is a precautionary feature of Windows / Windows Defender - which you
have correctly responded to, Jack.

Windows Defender gives that response to any executable / installer that
hasn't been "marked" to enable an "over-ride". You can make an alteration to Windows that always allows an installer to go ahead - but clicking to allow installation is seldom a worry or inconvenience to me, so I leave things as
they are.

Long ago (7 years+) I abandoned all the paid anti-malware products, and the
free versions like AVG, because Windows for a long time has had more than
adequate protection via its built-in products, especially since Windows
8/8.1/10.

But in my opinion, anyone persisting with Windows 7 is foolhardy.

Went to the Legacy web site and downloaded the update. Windows wouldn't run
it as was blocked by Windows Defender. Managed to override this by "run
anyway". Updated OK, but won't allow any access to the internet when
running. Presumably there is a setting in Windows Defender that needs to be
altered. Tried a couple of them but these haven't cured it.
Any ideas?

I can't "check for updates" as the program says I am not connected to the
internet. Same for Legacy News on the home page. I am connected and even
restarted my machine in case there was a glitch. Is there a problem at the
Legacy end?
