I finally cured the issue of not seeing the Legacy News or Updates on the
Home Page - thanks to lots of help/suggestions from Legacy Support.
The issue finally turned out to be an unknown setting in Internet Explorer
that was blocking Legacy from making a call to IE. I went into the Settings
and on every possible page I pressed the "Reset" button - there were quite a
few. After that everything worked again.
No idea why this happened as I never use IE and hadn't changed any settings
for years. Whether there was a small change in the way Legacy called IE for
the Home Page, or whether it was related to the "1909" update to Windows 10
is a mystery. But glad everything works again.
Note - changing the browser in Legacy options 11.1 makes no difference,
since the home page access always uses IE via a system call.

Like Ian, I only use Windows Defender now as it is considered to offer
better protection. But it isn't always very easy to "tweak"

That is a precautionary feature of Windows / Windows Defender - which you
have correctly responded to, Jack.

Windows Defender gives that response to any executable / installer that
hasn't been "marked" to enable an "over-ride". You can make an alteration to
Windows that always allows an installer to go ahead - but clicking to allow
installation is seldom a worry or inconvenience to me, so I leave things as
they are.

Long ago (7 years+) I abandoned all the paid anti-malware products, and the
free versions like AVG, because Windows for a long time has had more than
adequate protection via its built-in products, especially since Windows
8/8.1/10.

But in my opinion, anyone persisting with Windows 7 is foolhardy.

Went to the Legacy web site and downloaded the update. Windows wouldn't run
it as was blocked by Windows Defender. Managed to override this by "run
anyway". Updated OK, but won't allow any access to the internet when
running. Presumably there is a setting in Windows Defender that needs to be
altered. Tried a couple of them but these haven't cured it.
Any ideas?

I can't "check for updates" as the program says I am not connected to the
internet. Same for Legacy News on the home page. I am connected and even
restarted my machine in case there was a glitch. Is there a problem at the
Legacy end?
