Outlook Express is free with Windows and is a cut down form of Outlook which
comes with Microsoft Office. Outlook acts as a desk top manager and has such
things as a calendar, diary, alarm, scheduler, etc.
It is much more complex with a lot more to go wrong than Outlook Express.
I use Outlook at work and Outlook Express at home. I much prefer Outlook
Express if all you want is an e-mail client interface
You could also throw away internet explorer and use Opera as a browser. This
is free, takes up less disk space, uses less resources, allows your system
to run faster. and has it's own built in e-mail client.
I have an old P90 laptop which I take to ROs etc. This only has 40 Mb of RAM
and a 1Gb hard disk. I run Windows 98 Lite (another free program) and Opera
as my basic operating system. This configuration allows me to run Legacy,
FTM, and Genviewer simultaneously, and the whole thing, whilst not a race
horse, runs at an acceptable speed.
Hope this helps
Regards
Les
